Vol. 399 No. 1

Written Answers. - AIDS Programme Expenditure.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

83 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health the total expenditure by the Government, and his Department, in relation to AIDS under the following headings: (a) information, (b) education, (c) support for voluntary organisations, (d) drugs and (e) health care provision through health boards and hospitals.

The following is the information sought by the Deputy in so far as it is available:—

(a) and (b) — AIDS Information and Education — £138,000: This does not include expenditure by the former health education bureau during 1986 and 1987 in relation to AIDS education and information. This information is not readily available in the format requested but I have asked my Department to try to extract the relevant figures and I will pass these on to the Deputy when they are available.

This figure represents expenditure incurred by the Department of Health in relation to AIDS information and education and does not relate to expenditure incured by the health boards, which is funded out of their financial allocations.

(c) — Support for Voluntary Organisations — £2,124,880.

(d) and (e) — Health Care: Funding in respect of the treatment and management of AIDS, including the cost of drugs, is provided as part of health services funding generally and is not readily identifiable.
