Vol. 399 No. 1

Written Answers. - Great Southern Hotel Group.

Eric J. Byrne

Ceist:

33 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Labour the financial results of the Great Southern Hotel Group for 1989 which were published in April; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

For year ending 31 December 1989 Great Southern Hotels achieved a record net profit of £1.486 million, an increase of 100 per cent on profits for the previous year. Turnover, at £10.4 million, showed an increase of 15.2 per cent on the 1988 figures. Gross profit increased by 17.8 per cent to £7.94 million. Great Southern Hotels provided for a contribution of £370,000 to the Exchequer in 1989 compared to £250,000 contribute for 1988.

The company's excellent performance is due, in large part, to the commitment and dedication of the board, management and staff of the hotels. I should like to take this opportunity to place on record my appreciation of their achievement in 1989.
