Vol. 399 No. 3

Written Answers. - Killarney (Kerry) School Dental Services.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

146 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Health the proposals he has for the reintroduction of a school dental service for approximately 1,400 primary school children in the Killarney urban district council area.

The provision of dental services in the Killarney area is a matter for the Southern Health Board. I am aware that school dental services in Kerry generally had been under pressure because of the demands made for emergency adult treatment. As the Deputy will be aware a special additional allocation has been made to each health board in 1990 to re-establish routine dental services for adults. I am satisfied that this should bring about a significant reduction in demand for emergency treatment with a consequential improvement in school services for children.
