Vol. 399 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Refunds.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

54 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 who was recently given the age exemption of £4,350 is entitled to a tax refund for previous years.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer is not entitled to a tax refund for earlier years. Provisional reviews of her liability for years 1986-87 to 1989-90 show small underpayments arising for each year.

John Connor

Ceist:

55 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Finance when the Revenue Commissioners intend to make an income tax refund to a person (details supplied) in County Sligo arising from overpayment during the 1985-86 tax year.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes is unable to complete a review of tax affairs of the taxpayer as her husband has to date failed to furnish to his inspector of taxes the necessary information.

The inspector of taxes last wrote to him in this regard on 4 May, 1990 and awaits a reply.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

56 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in the payment of a tax rebate to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and when such payment will be made.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that an application for a refund of tax was received by the inspector of taxes on 7 May 1990. A review of the taxpayer's liability for 1989-90 resulted in an overpayment of £623.40. A cheque for this amount will issue to the taxpayer within the next ten days.
