Vol. 399 No. 3

Written Answers. - Griffith Barracks (Dublin).

Eric J. Byrne

Ceist:

64 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the obstacles affecting the sale of Griffith Barracks, Dublin 6 which requires the services of the Chief State Solicitor's office; the projected length of time it will take to resolve the title difficulties; and if some of the existing buildings on site could be preserved for the benefit of the surrounding communities.

The title matters affecting this property arose from its acquisition in the first half of the nineteenth century for prison purposes. As indicated in the reply to the Deputy on 22 May last, Question No. 65, these problems are being resolved by the Commissioners of Public Works in consultation with the Chief State Solicitor's Office and arrangements for sale are being settled with the Department of Justice, joint owners of the property. It is expected that a sale will be advertised in the near future.

As indicated in the reply to a Parliamentary Question put down on 2 May 1989, column 881, No. 129, the question of the preservation of any buildings on the site will be a matter for the eventual purchasers and the planning authority.
