Ceist:71 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Energy if it is proposed to extend the gas pipeline west of Dundalk, County Louth using the balance of the funding from Phase II of the special Border areas fund.
Written Answers. - Extension of Gas Pipeline.
The special Border areas programme provides for assistance to be made available for the construction of a gas pipeline west of Dundalk to viable centres in Border counties. Bord Gáis Éireann is of the view that this pipeline would not be viable in the absence of additional EC funding. The possibility of supplementary assistance under the programme, including the balance of funding from Phase II, is being explored with the European Commission.
