Vol. 399 No. 5

Written Answers. - Taxi Licences.

Eric J. Byrne

Ceist:

20 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the debate taking place in Dublin City Council regarding the issue of further numbers of taxi licences; if he is satisfied that the taxi service is adequate to meet both the domestic and tourist demands; if the role of the City Council in controlling and administering the scheme will be expanded; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of an increase in the number of taxi licences in the Dublin taximeter area is one for Dublin Corporation, which is considering the matter.

The actual issue of licences for taxis and their drivers and the application of the provisions of the public service vehicle regulations generally is a matter for the Garda Commission.
I have no proposals to alter these arrangements.
