Vol. 399 No. 5

Written Answers. - Animal Feed.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

62 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the steps he will take to ensure that live pigs and chickens imported from Great Britain and Northern Ireland are safe, having regard to the fact that they have been fed with feed containing cattle offal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no evidence whatever to indicate that the feeding of meat and bonemeal to pigs and poultry presents a risk. No case of spongiform encephalopathy has been recorded in either species anywhere in the world.
