Vol. 399 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ranelagh, Dublin, School Project.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

87 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application for financial assistance for maintenance work from Scoil Bhríde, Ranelagh, Dublin 6; when the application was received; if she will immediately grant financial assistance for the work on fire safety and sanitation; when a decision will be available on the overall application; if she will meet a deputation from the school board; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Joseph Doyle

Ceist:

88 Mr. Doyle asked the Minister for Education when the board of management of Scoil Bhríde, Ranelagh, Dublin 6 will receive a reply from her Department following a submission made in July, 1989 regarding work required to be done to the school for which the standard grant-aid was requested, as the work required includes such areas as fire safety and sanitation as well as other basic maintenance.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 87 and 88 together.

In July 1989 my Department received an application for grant aid from the chairperson of the board of management of Scoil Bhríde, Ranelagh, towards the cost of works he wishes to have carried out at the school. My Department's architect has inspected the school and his report has been considered. The whole question of what works should be grant-aided is being considered in the context of the available capital and the fact that a number of classrooms in the school are not now in use. My Department propose to meet the school authorities at an early date to discuss the matter. I will communicate with the Deputies when there have been developments in this regard.
