Vol. 399 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Donegal Sewerage Schemes.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

107 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the limited amount of moneys made available for Annagry sewerage scheme, County Donegal, and the fact that sewage disposal is by way of a lunar system, he will give an assurance that nearby beaches will not be polluted by sewage disposal.

The operation and maintenance of the Annagry sewerage scheme which is under construction at present will be the sole responsibility of Donegal County Council and I have no direct function in the matter. The scheme has been designed to abate the nuisance caused by dense development which is relying on septic tanks which are not operating satisfactorily. The full capital cost of this contract is being met by the Exchequer and grants to the value of the contract have been allocated to the council.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

108 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in relation to Ardara, County Donegal sewerage scheme.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 33 of 9 April 1987. The position remains unchanged.
