Vol. 399 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Board Patients Property.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

124 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Health the amount of money being held by each health board belonging to people who have died leaving no relatives; if this money is kept in a separate account; if the health boards have the right to use this money; and for what purpose.

The information available from health boards is as follows:

Health Board

Amount

£

Eastern Health Board

150,000

Midland Health Board

126,000

Mid-Western Health Board

60,000

North Eastern Health Board

50,000

North Western Health Board

200,000

South Eastern Health Board

150,000

Southern Health Board

212,000

Western Health Board

200,000

These funds form part of the patients property account, which is separately maintained under each health board. As these moneys are the property of patients health boards have no right to use them.
