Vol. 399 No. 10

Written Answers. - Appointment of Remedial Teachers.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

143 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education the reason Brooklodge national school, Glanmire, Cork, has not been granted a full-time or part-time remedial teacher as an application was made over three years ago and the school now has over 200 children on their register.

Remedial teaching posts are allocated on the basis of priority of need rather than on the basis of application.

To date the school in question is not among those to which it has been possible for my Department to allocate the services of a remedial teacher in accordance with its assessment of priority of need.

I sanctioned 30 additional remedial teachers this school year in primary schools and I will be keeping the appointment of further remedial teachers under review.
