Vol. 399 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dublin Port Relief Road.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

32 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he has been consulted by Dublin Corporation and/or the Department of the Environment regarding the decision to carry out detailed studies into the design and provision of a port relief road in Dublin from Whitehall, Dublin 9, to Booterstown, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have not been consulted in relation to Dublin City Council's decision to carry out a detailed feasibility and environmental impact study of the port access route from Whitehall to Booterstown. That study relates to an essentially technical examination of potential route alignments, construction modes and so on, and of the likely environmental impact of such a route.

It will be a matter for the Government, in due course, after that study has been completed, to decide whether a port relief road should be proceeded with in the context of overall transportation arrangements for Dublin. As a member of the Government, I shall, of course, be involved in the Government's consideration of the matter.
