Vol. 399 No. 10

Written Answers. - Air Transport Requirements.

Alan M. Dukes

Ceist:

60 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if the Government are considering the purchase of an executive jet and the purchase of a search and rescue helicopter as competing options; if so, when a decision will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The leasing arrangement on the Gulfstream 111 Aircraft (G.111), obtained for the duration of Ireland's EC Presidency, expires at the end of June 1990. Arising from this, the Government is considering the overall situation in relation to ministerial air transport requirements and the level and type of service to be provided from 1 July 1990.

While the Deputy is aware that the purchase of search and rescue aircraft is an entirely separate issue and is not the responsibility of my Department, I can state that the Government will be considering the various options for improving the air-sea rescue services identified by the review group on air-sea rescue services.

A decison will be taken by Government on both of these issues at the appropriate time.
