Vol. 399 No. 12

Written Answers. - Swords (Dublin) Road.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

75 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the huge increase in the volume of traffic on Drynam Road, Swords, County Dublin, and the danger to the residents in the area, if he will sanction the application from Dublin County Council for funding for the construction of the proposed link road between the Drynam and Malahide Roads.

As the proposed road would be a non-national road, responsibility for undertaking any works on it, including the provision of the necessary finance, is a matter for the local authority. The local authority may, at their discretion, use the discretionary grants for non-national roads, paid by my Department, to supplement expenditure from their own resources on such works. Discretionary grants totalling £1,333,000 have been notified to Dublin County Council in respect of 1990.

The 1990 Exchequer provisions for road grants have been fully allocated and there are no funds at my disposal from which additional allocations could be made at this time for the application in question.
