Vol. 400 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing Boat Licences.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

22 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Marine the number of fishing boat licences granted in the last year.

(Limerick West): Since 1 June 1989 a total of 29 licences has been issued to Irish fishermen to enable registration of fishing vessels within the State.

Can the Minister of State indicate what criteria was invoked in granting these licences, on what basis were they granted?

(Limerick West): The normal criteria has been examined with regard to the issue of licences. All licences issued were in respect of small boats with the exception of one large boat, the Irish vessels, Mary M.

Are they all replacements?

(Limerick West): Generally.

Out of 29 how many were there?

(Limerick West): I do not have that information.

That must dispose of questions for today.
