Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

47 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for the Marine the proposals, if any, he has for the development of Ballycotton Harbour, County Cork; if any development plan is included in the sub-regional programme for EC Structural Funds; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose answering Questions Nos. 39 and 47 together. In response to a request from my Department, Cork County Council submitted a fishery harbour development programme for County Cork. Keelbeg pier at Union Hall and Ballycotton harbour have been identified by the council and by my Department as priorities for development.

In relation to Ballycotton, the immediate priority is to undertake essential repairs, for which I have recently approved a grant. I cannot say when further development works might commence.

My Department are seeking an EC contribution of £7.5 million for an overall fishery harbour development programme which forms part of the operational programme for rural development.
