53 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Marine the number of rod angling licences issued under the terms of the Fisheries (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1987, during (a) 1989 and (b) to date in 1990; if it is intended to continue issuing licences during the course of this year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I have provided the Deputy with details of sales of angling licences in 1989. I have not got details of the receipts etc. from the ongoing issue of licences during the current year. Details of sales together with cash remittances are forwarded throughout the year to the Regional Fisheries Boards by their authorised agents. The boards in turn furnish the completed data to my Department at the end of the year.
I intend in the new co-operative arrangements to take account of the position of those issued with licences in the current year.
