Vol. 400 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fisheries Council Agenda.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

56 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for the Marine if he will outline the agenda for the Fisheries Council meeting to take place on 27 June, 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provisional agenda for the Fisheries Council, which will take place in Luxembourg on 27 June 1990 is as follows:

1. Approval of the provisional agenda.

2. (Possibly) Approval of the "A" items list.

3. Proposal for a Council Regulation on the submission of data on the landings of fishery products in member states.

4. Commission staff working paper on the effects of setting a dual guide price for herring in 1989.

5. Proposal for a Council Regulation amending, for certain fish stocks and groups of fish stocks, the total allowable catches for 1990.

6. Revision of measures relating to fishing for horse mackerel in 1990.

7. Proposal for a Council Regulation allocating between member states the additional quota of cod in Greenland waters in 1990.

8. Technical measures for the conservation of fish stocks — report of the high-level working party.

9. Fishing relations with certain third countries and certain international organizations: USSR, Canada, Namibia, NASCO 7th Annual Meeting.

10. Information by the German delegation on fisheries relations with the German Democratic Republic and implications for the Common Fisheries Policy.
11. Any other business: Modification of the pluriannual guidance programme for the Italian ocean-going fleet; Fisheries research; Possible statement on amendments to structural policy (Council Regulation No. 4028/86).
The agenda item Nos. 3, 5 and 6 are ones on which votes may be taken.
This is a wide ranging agenda and in my role as President of the Council I will be aiming for a full discussion of all the issues with a view to making as much progress as possible. Of particular concern will be the discussion of technical measures for the conservation of fish stocks, the presentation by the German delegation on fisheries relations with the German Democratic Republic as well as other developments in relations with Third Countries.
From Ireland's perspective there is a number of important issues in relation to the revision of quotas and the review of the arrangements governing horse mackerel fishing which will be pursued by the Irish delegation.
