Vol. 400 No. 3

Written Answers. - Excess Milk Levy.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

31 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the implications of the EC super-levy for excess milk throughput for co-operatives; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the quota system a super levy is payable by a co-operative or dairy on the quantity of milk purchased by them in excess of their quotas. As a result of a recent decision by the EC Council of Agriculture Ministers the levy penalty has been increased to £1.26 per gallon. Co-operatives and dairies are obliged to recover any super levy due from those suppliers who have made milk deliveries in excess of their individual quotas.
