Vol. 400 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Cork Herd Number.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

82 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a separate herd number will be allocated to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

I am informed by the director of ERAD that the person concerned has been farming a holding with his brother for a number of years under a jointly allocated herdnumber.

A herdnumber can only be allocated where ERAD are satisfied that a herd is maintained at all times as a separate unit without intermixing with other herds and with separate farm equipment, housing and fodder as a minimum requirement.

A recent inspection by ERAD officials of the holding concerned revealed evidence of intermixing of the brothers' herds. While such circumstances exist a separate herd number cannot be allocated.
