Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Electricity Capacity.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

23 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Energy, having regard to present demand trends, when he expects there may be need for a further increment of electricity capacity; and the way in which he expects this to be filled.

The next increment on generating capacity required by the ESB is likely to be met by the recommissioning of existing oil fired plant in long term storage; it is too early to say whether these stations will be fired by oil or other fuel. It is currently envisaged that new additional capacity will not be required until the later half of the decade.

The ESB will also be looking at ways to make better use of existing plant and other conservation measures so as to postpone the date when new plant is needed.
