Vol. 401 No. 5

Written Answers. - Materials Contraventions Procedures.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

84 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the number of applications, where either the section 4 procedure or the procedure for material contravention was followed in Dublin County Council area, is not included in the data for 1988 published by the Environmental Research Unit in Planning Statistics 1988; whether he will provide the missing information; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As indicated in my reply to Question No. 103 on 14 March, 1990, the planning statistics are collated annually by the environmental research unit on the basis of returns submitted by planning authorities to my Department. While every effort is made to ensure that completed returns are submitted by all planning authorities, the annual statistics series must be published each year in the absence of some data. The problem of missing data is adverted to in the preface and the introduction to "Planning Statistics 1988" and those planning authorities from whom data is missing are identified at the foot of the appropriate tables. In the case of Dublin County Council two pages of their annual return were missing when submitted to my Department there is no record in my Department of the receipt of the missing data prior to the publication of the statistics by the ERU.

The data for Dublin County Council, excluding Dún Laoghaire, now submitted by the county council is:

Attention is drawn to the text of the previous reply wherein it is explained that a "section 4" motion may also appear as a "material contravention" in appropriate circumstances.
