Ceist:161 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the scheme of grants to aid works of renewing and repairing thatched roofs; and the grants which have been paid for this purpose in 1990.
Written Answers. - Thatched Roofs Grants Scheme.
An amount of £150,000 was provided in this year's budget to fund a scheme of grants for the renewal or repair of existing thatched roofs of houses. Details of the grants were announced on 18 April 1990 and may be obtained, together with application forms from the Department's offices in Ballina, County Mayo. While more than 550 applications for grants have been received to date, none of these has yet matured for payment. No claims for payment of grants have yet been received.
