Vol. 401 No. 6

Written Answers. - Senior Citizens Day Hospital.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

191 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Health if he will respond to the application made to his Department by representatives of various senior citizens organisations in North County Dublin for the provision of a day hospital for senior citizens at St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane, County Dublin, in view of the urgent need for this facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of day hospital facilities for the elderly in North County Dublin is a matter for the Eastern Health Board. The Eastern Health Board are assessing their priorities for the development of services for the elderly in Dublin, including the question of the provision of additional day care services for the elderly in North County Dublin, in the context of the implementation of the recommendations of the report The Years Ahead. When the Eastern Health Board submit their proposals they will be examined by my Department. I might add that the Eastern Health Board's current provision of day care facilities for the elderly in North County Dublin includes a day centre in the town of Swords, and a mobile day hospital which visits Swords and Balbriggan.
