Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

221 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the reduction of a house improvement grant payable to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; if the balance outstanding will be paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A grant for any category of house improvements cannot exceed two-thirds of the approved cost as estimated by the Department's inspector or two-thirds of the actual cost of carrying out the work, whichever is the lesser. The actual costs of the repairs done to the house as notified by the applicant were less than the amount approved and the grant was adjusted accordingly to take account of the lower costs. There is no balance outstanding.

John Bruton

Ceist:

222 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment if a person (details supplied) in County Meath who has applied for a thatching grant may commence work on this project.

The receipt of additional information requested from the applicant is awaited.
