Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Collon (Louth) Traffic Lights.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

235 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction the proposal submitted by Louth County Council for the provision of traffic lights at Collon, County Louth; the cost of the work; when work will commence and when it is expected that it will be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

251 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the serious accidents which have occurred at the village of Collon, County Louth, he plans to allow Louth County Council to proceed with improvements to the traffic route lighting and to the crossroads junction in the village; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 235 and 251 together.

Louth County Council's current proposals for remedial works at Collon village are at present under consideration in my Department. The proposed works include the provision of traffic route lighting, pedestrian lights and the improvement of the national primary road/Drogheda Road junction. The estimated cost of the traffic route lighting and pedestrian lights is £30,000.

The funds available to me for road grants in 1990 have been fully allocated and, accordingly, I am not now in a position to provide a grant for the works. The provision of a grant to enable the traffic route lighting and pedestrian lights to be installed will be considered when the road grant allocations for 1991 are being determined.
