Vol. 402 No. 2

Written Answers. - Carrier's Licence Application.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

67 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will arrange to have a haulage licence issued to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny without further delay.

Before a road freight carrier's licence can be granted, it is necessary for the applicant to own a vehicle or to leaséhire one and to have it taxed and insured in his name. It is also necessary to have the tachograph in the vehicle currently calibrated. An application for an international road freight carrier's licence was received on 1 October from the person referred to by the Deputy, but the applicant has not yet acquired a vehicle. The Deputy will appreciate that a licence cannot be issued in this case until the applicant has acquired a vehicle and has complied with the necessary formalities. However, in the meantime, in order to avoid delay in issuing a licence at a later stage, my Department are processing the application as far as possible.
