Vol. 402 No. 3

Written Answers. - Irish Citizens in Gulf.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

70 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make funds available to the Irish Ambassador in Iraq to help support Irish citizens who have lost their jobs in Kuwait and Iraq and are unable to leave.

The Government have the responsibility to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of all our citizens abroad are fully safeguarded. Our diplomatic and consular missions are under standing instructions to give all appropriate assistance to Irish citizens abroad who may find themselves in distress. The Embassy, Baghdad, has responded to all recent requests for consular assistance from citizens in need, as a result of the Gulf crisis, including requests for advances of funds.
