Vol. 402 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Garda Station.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

38 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine the approaches which have been made to his Department for the acquisition of its yard and premises at Crofton Road, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, or a part thereof, for a new Garda station in Dún Laoghaire; when the approaches were made; and his Department's response.

The Office of Public Works wrote to my Department in January of this year asking if it would be prepared to vacate part of the Dún Laoghaire harbour yard at Crofton Road, thus releasing it for use as a site for a new Garda station. The Minister for Justice also approached my Department on this matter.

I sought the advice of the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Board who advised that the area in question may be crucial to the future operation and development of the harbour. On that basis and on the basis of departmental advice, I indicated that I could not agree to this proposal.
