Vol. 402 No. 5

Written Answers. - Swords (Dublin) Bus Stop.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

129 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Justice if he will report on the difficulties in securing a suitable location for a bus stop on Main Street, Swords, County Dublin; if he will arrange for the Garda authorities to identify a location as a matter of urgency; and if he will give an assurance that action will be taken against any person or persons found guilty of removing same when erected.

By virtue of section 85 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, the Garda Commissioner may designate the location of bus stops. The Garda authorities have informed me that, arising from a request from Bus Átha Cliath, the bus stop on the left hand side of Main Street, Swords as one faces north has recently been relocated.

Under the 1961 Act it is an offence to remove a bus stop sign or shelter without lawful authority. Decisions as to the institution of criminal proceedings in respect of alleged offences under this section are matters for the prosecuting authorities and I have no function in the matter.
