Vol. 402 No. 5

Written Answers. - Drogheda Harbour Reconstruction Works.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

39 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Marine the contribution made towards the completion of the Ballast at Welshman's Quays, County Louth by (1) his Department, (2) the Harbour Commissioners, and (3) the port users; and if EC funds have been allocated to this project.

Reconstruction works at Ballast and Welshman's Quays, Drogheda Harbour, at a total estimated cost of £2.1 million are being financed by State grants totalling £750,000; contributions from a port user of £250,000 by way of advance cargo dues with the remainder of the project's cost being borne by the Drogheda Harbour Commission.

A sum of £508,000 of the State grant allocation has already been paid to the commissioners and the balance, £242,000, will be paid this year.

It is intended that part of the funding provided by the State and the commissioners will be recouped from the EC Commission through the Operational Programme on Peripherality.
