Vol. 402 No. 5

Written Answers. - Fishery Patrol Vessel Search.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

47 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Marine if it is his intention to resume the search for the missing fishery patrol vessel which sank off Ballycotton, County Cork in July 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There have been three attempts to locate the vessel using the best available equipment. The first search of the area took place between 10 July and 14 July 1990. In August, following the discovery of monofilament netting, the Naval Service and later Celtic Diving and Salvage of Cork searched the area of the find. More recently a length of netting, a buoy, boathook and fire extinguisher were discovered near Ballycotton. Having established that these articles may have come from the missing fisheries patrol launch the assistance of the Naval Service was again requested to search the area, which they did without success.

There are no plans to resume the search at this time.
