Ceist:114 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline (a) the total number of primary school pupils in receipt of free milk and (b) the criteria used to distribute free milk in schools.

I take it that the Deputy is referring to the school milk scheme funded by the EC. I am not in a position to indicate the number of school children benefiting under the scheme but I can say that 2,390 schools participated during the 1989-90 school year.
School children and students regularly attending schools of any grade or category, except universities and comparable institutes, are entitled to avail of subsidised milk under the scheme.
