24 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Communications if he has satisfied himself that the schedule for the introduction of MMDS, which he announced earlier this year, is being adhered to; if not, the reasons; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
36 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Communications the current position regarding the establishment of the MMDS system; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 24 and 36 together. I refer the Deputies to my replies to similar questions, in particular Questions Nos. 13, 17 and 25 on 30 May 1990, columns 793-796, volume 399 of the Official Report of that day.
In general, I am satisfied with the effort being made by the MMDS operators to bring MMDS into operation. While progress is being made in some areas, in other areas decisions on planning appeals are awaited before work can begin on building masts, installing transmitters etc.
