89 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education if she has any plans to introduce a properly funded scheme for the employment, on a national basis, of caretakers, clerk typists and classroom assistants in national schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
New posts of caretaker or clerk-typist in national schools may not be approved under my Department's schemes at present. The question of reviewing these arrangements is being considered in the context of discussions on a new Programme for Economic and Social Development.
I have no plans to introduce a scheme for the employment of classroom assistants in national schools.
