Written Answers. - National Primary Roads Programme.

Ceist:

72 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the money allocated for the national primary roads programme in each of the years from 1980 to 1990; the level of support from the EC for these expenditures; and the net cost to the Exchequer for each of those years.

I propose to circulate in the Official Report a tabular statement setting out details of State road improvement and maintenance grants for national primary roads in each of the years from 1980 to 1990. The figures for 1980 to 1989 are the amounts of grant payments in each of the years in question. The 1990 figures represent the allocations for the year.

The information available in my Department on EC grant commitments relates to the overall amounts in respect of improvement works on national primary, national secondary and major urban roads. Information on the commitments for national primary roads alone is being compiled and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible.
