143 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice whether a person (details supplied) who was arrested in Dublin on 16 September 1986 was detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act; and whether the RUC were so informed but that no application for his extradition was received from them, whereupon he was released.
I can confirm that the individual in question was arrested under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939, on the date referred to in the question and was released from custody the following day without charge. It is not the general practice to disclose the nature of whatever inquiries the Garda might make in particular cases, and I do not propose to depart from that practice.
