Vol. 403 No. 10

Written Answers. - Closure of Monaghan Factory.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

19 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he proposes to make public his Department's inquiry into the collapse of Ballybay Meats in County Monaghan; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that two other companies are in serious financial circumstances because of the collapse of Ballybay Meats; and if he has satisfied himself that IDA funding earmarked for machinery in Ballybay Meats was used for that purpose.

As already indicated to the House, I do not intend to publish my Department's report on the closure of Ballybay Meats Ltd. because of the confidential nature of my Department's dealings with individual companies.

The payment of creditors of a company in receivership is a matter for the receiver. Consequently, I have no knowledge of the position of creditors of Ballybay Meats Ltd. or any function in relation to them.

The IDA have assured me that IDA grant aid for machinery in Ballybay Meats Ltd. was used for that purpose.
