30 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Defence the reason for the increase in Vote 37 subhead 02 in the 1991 Book of Estimates (Abridged Version).

The increase in subhead 02 of the Defence Estimate 1991 provides for initial payments for the purchase of aircraft.

31 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Defence the reason for the increase in Vote 37 subhead C of the 1991 Book of Estimates (Abridged Version).

The increase is due to the increases in rates of allowances granted on the recommendation of the Commission on Remuneration and Conditions of Service in the Defence Forces.

32 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Defence the reason for the increase in Vote 38 subhead C in the 1991 Book of Estimates for Public Services (Abridged Version); and the way in which the £5,780,000 will be spent.

The increase is due to increases in the rates of allowances and gratuities payable to dependants of former members of the Defence Forces whose deaths were attributable to their military service and to dependants of deceased veterans of the War of Independence. The provision of £5,780,000 is made up as follows:

33 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Defence the reason for the increase in Vote 38 subhead E1 in the 1991 Book of Estimates for Public Services (Abridged Version); and the way in which the £38,764,000 will be spent.

The increase is due to increases in Defence Forces pensions and gratuities arising from the grant of the enhanced pay rates recommended by the Commission on Remuneration and Conditions of Service in the Defence Forces. The provision of £38,764,000 is made up as follows: Officers, £11,935,000; NCOs and Privates, £21,263,000 and Spouses and Children, £5,566,000.
