Ceist:224 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education when she intends to address the unacceptable situation where some mentally handicapped children over five years of age are not attending schools due to inadequate back up service.

As every effort is made to cater for the educational needs of mentally handicapped children through placement in a school setting, I would be concerned at a situation such as described by the Deputy.
If the Deputy submits details of the children in question, I will have the matter fully investigated.
