Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Insurance Company Payments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

227 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total amounts paid by insurance companies on foot of claims for the years 1987 to 1990, inclusive, under the following headings: (a) motor cover, (b) personal accident and (c) public liability; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ceist:

228 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) the total amount paid in respect of motor insurance premia in 1970 and (b) the total value of claims made against such premia for the same period; if he will provide similar information for the year 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ceist:

229 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total amount paid in insurance premia in respect of (a) motor cover, (b) personal accident and (c) public liability for the years 1987 to 1990, inclusive; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 227, 228 and 229 together.

Information in regard to 1990 will not be available until the publication of the 1990 insurance annual report — the "Blue Book"— later this year. In regard to information sought covering other years, this is contained in previously published annual reports which have been presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas.

Data relating to personal accident and public liability are included in the insurance annual report as part of "Accident and Health" and "Liability", respectively.

To compile separate data on personal accident and public liability would involve a considerable amount of work for which resources are not currently available.
