337 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health if he has any proposals to update the Medical Registration Act, 1978, in relation to the registration, both temporary and permanent of non-EC doctors through the regulations operated by the Medical Council; and if he will make a statement on the situation, in view of the recent court judgments on the matter.
I am at present considering what amendments to the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978, are desirable and in this connection I am examining proposals on the matter which were submitted to me by the Medical Council. The proposals include amendments to the registration functions of the council.
As the Deputy will be aware the recent decision of the High Court is being appealed to the Supreme Court.
