Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointments.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

362 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education if she will give favourable consideration to the appointment of a remedial teacher to serve Coole, Moynalvey and Dangan schools in County Meath having regard to the efforts they have made in the past number of years to meet this need.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

390 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the application for a remedial teacher for Garristown national school, County Dublin; and given the urgent need for such a teacher, if she will sanction the appointment of same, even on a shared basis with an adjoining school.

The question of allocating additional remedial teachers to serve the needs of disadvantaged pupils will arise under arrangements recently agreed as part of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

The needs of the particular schools mentioned will be considered when decisions in the matter are being taken later in the year.
