Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Offaly Stained-Glass Windows.

Tom Enright

Ceist:

26 Mr. Enright asked the Taoiseach if his attention has been drawn to the cultural and aesthetic significance of the five stained-glass windows painted by the late Ms Evie Hone situated at the Jesuit House, Rahan, County Offaly; that this property is for sale; if he will arrange for an inspection to be carried out on these windows in view of their significance and importance; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that a senior representative of the Jesuit Community has stated that a new home would have to be found for these five windows; if he will consider having discussions with the committee which was enlisted to help look after these windows and the Offaly Historical Society to determine their future location, so that the owners and trustees of the property would have these windows maintained and preserved.

If the Deputy would like to send me the full facts of this case I will have the matter looked into. If, as the Deputy suggests, the Jesuit Order wish to have a new home found for these windows there are a number of State cultural institutions who could provide a suitable home.
