Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bord Gáis Éireann Headquarters.

Pearse Wyse

Ceist:

73 Mr. Wyse asked the Minister for Energy the steps he is taking to ensure that Cork remains the headquarters of Bord Gáis Éireann.

The headquarters of Bord Gáis Éireann will continue to be situated in Cork. There are no plans to move it to Dublin or any other centre. Indeed, the board in reaffirming their commitment to Cork, directed in 1990 that staff not directly involved in the day-to-day operation of the Bord Gáis Éireann utilities would continue to be based in Cork.

I made my position on the location of BGE's headquarters quite clear in an address to the CII in Cork on 17 January, when I stressed that the job specification for the new chief executive would be quite explicit — the job is full time, based in Cork. This position was clearly explained in the advertisements for the job which were carried subsequently in the national newspapers.
