Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - EC Contributions.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

119 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Finance the estimated total contributions from the EC to Ireland in the years 1988, 1989 and 1990; and the estimated total contributions from Ireland to the EC in the same period.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to payments to and from the EC budget. For the years in question these are as follows:

Receipts from EC Budget

Payments to EC Budget

IR£ million

IR£ million

1988

1,161.6*

247.8

1989

1,295.3*

285.6

1990

1,734.5*

282.9

(estimate)

Tables showing EC receipts and payments are published each year in the Budget Booklet.
* In addition to the above it is estimated that payments of the order of £9 million in 1988 and £13 million per annum in 1989 and 1990 in respect of research were received by research bodies, higher education establishments and private firms; a more accurate estimate is not possible as the data are not compiled in a comprehensive manner on the basis of payments receipts.
