76 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for the Environment the level of service charges for each year since 1983 for each local authority in the country, where they apply.

92 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the level of service charges currently operating in each local authority area; and the percentage of the total collected in service charges for each year ended 31 December 1988, 1989 and 1990.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 76 and 92 together.

Information of the type requested by the Deputies is available in my Department only in respect of charges for domestic water, refuse and sewerage services and I refer the Deputies to replies to Question No. 69 of 12 February 1986 in respect of 1984 and 1985; Question No. 181 of 24 June 1987 in respect of 1986 and 1987; Question No. 200 of 13 December 1988 and Question No. 115 of 26 October 1989 in respect of 1989.

The amounts levied in 1983, 1990 and 1991 are set out in the tabular statement which I propose to have circulated in the Official Report. The total receipts from domestic service charges in so far as it can be identified in local authority estimates are estimated to have been approximately 68 per cent in 1988 and 74 per cent in 1989 of the amounts collectable excluding arrears. Information on the percentage collection in 1990 is not yet available in my Department.
