Vol. 404 No. 8

Written Answers. - Appointment of Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

16 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health if he will approve the appointment of a second consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Waterford Regional Hospital so that the performing of hip replacement operations for patients from the Waterford community care area by consultants may resume at Kilcreene Orthopaedic Regional Hospital as these operations have not been carried out for many months; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have received a proposal from the South Eastern Health Board regarding the appointment of a second consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Waterford Regional Hospital. My Department are in correspondence with the health board on the matter in the light of the many competing demands for service developments in the area.
