Ceist:47 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health the current waiting list for cataract operations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Cataract Operations.
The most recent information available to my Department indicated that there are approximately 2,960 patients awaiting cataract operations. I wish to report to the House that the waiting list for cataract operations has in fact decreased by more than 400 or about 12 per cent since 1989. In 1990 there were approximately 4,200 cataract operations carried out which was an increase of 440 over the number carried out in 1989.
